IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR PRIVACY
At German American Bancorp, Inc. (GABC), we value your relationship and take our obligation to protect the privacy of your personal information very seriously. We recognize that you purchase our products and services because you trust that we will stand behind our promises. We also know that the basis of this trust comes not only from the ability of GABC to provide the products and services that are expected, but also from the ability to maintain the personal privacy of our customers.
The Privacy Policy which follows, covers the practices of all affiliates within the German American Bancorp, Inc. family* including our banking, insurance, investment and financial planning, asset management, and trust services companies, and applies to the nonpublic personal information of our customers.
Embedded in our culture is a tradition of protecting your personal privacy and confidential information. It has always been and will always be a top priority to maintain standards and procedures that are designed to keep your information secure. Since we do not sell or share your information to third parties not associated with services or activities of German American Bancorp, Inc., there is no need for you to tell us not to share your private information.
WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT
German American Bancorp only collects and maintains the information necessary to administer your business with us and to advise you about our products and services and other opportunities that we feel may be of interest to you. We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources:
- Information we receive from you on applications or other forms;
- Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates or others; and,
- Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency.
WHAT INFORMATION WE DISCLOSE TO NONAFFILIATED THIRD PARTIES
We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our customers or former customers to nonaffiliated third parties, except as permitted by law or as described below.
Service Providers and Joint Marketing Agreements
We may disclose all of the information we collect, as described under the heading “WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT”, to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements. However, we do not share credit related information.
Beneficiaries of Trust
Certain information, such as fiduciary information, is subject to more restrictive information sharing limitations, both internally and externally. If you have questions regarding fiduciary information, please contact your Trust Relationship Manager.
Sharing as Required by Law
We may disclose information to nonaffiliated third parties as allowed by law. For example, this may include a disclosure in connection with a subpoena or similar legal process, a fraud investigation, recording of deeds or trust and mortgages in public records, an audit or examination, or the sale of your account to another financial institution. We may also share information:
- If you initiate a request for us to share information with an outside party; or
- If the information is provided to help complete a customer initiated transaction.
WHAT INFORMATION WE SHARE WITHIN GERMAN AMERICAN BANCORP, INC.
In the course of our business, we may share some or all of the information described above among our affiliates. We may share information with affiliates providing financial and related services, such as our securities broker-dealers or our insurance agencies. We may also share with our affiliates providing non-financial services, such as our operations and servicing companies. This gives us a more complete knowledge of your total relationship with us and helps us meet your financial needs. The law allows us to share identifying information and information about our transactions and experiences with you, such as your account balances and payment history. You may direct us not to share other information that is assembled or used to determine your eligibility for a product or service, such as shown on consumer credit reports and assets and income information from applications.
If you prefer that we not share this other information among our affiliates, you may choose to opt out (or ask us not share within the German American Bancorp family of companies). To opt out, simply notify us between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EDT by calling 1-800-536-0660 and dialing zero from the main menu.. Your opt-out request will become effective as soon as reasonably practicable after we receive the call. If you have already shared your privacy preferences with us under this policy, it is not necessary to contact us again.
HOW WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION
We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect the integrity and confidentiality of your information. German American Bancorp also limits access to your nonpublic information to only those employees who need to know that information in order to provide products and services to you. All of our employees are trained to understand and comply with these information principles.
The procedures described in this notice will continue to apply to former customers including the honoring of any opt-out requests which may have been executed. However, this policy does not apply to commercial customers.
OTHER HELPFUL PRIVACY INFORMATION
CUSTOMER INFORMATION PROGRAM
In accordance with the USA PATRIOT Act, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each individual or entity opening an account. This includes all personal and commercial accounts, including loans and deposits, as well as trust, brokerage and insurance accounts.
What This Means to Our Customers
When you open an account, you will be asked for your name, social security or tax identification number, physical address, date of birth (if applicable) and other information that will allow GABC to identify you. You may also be asked to furnish your driver’s license or other identifying documents. We are required to follow this procedure each time an account is opened.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CREDIT REPORTING
We may report information about your account to credit bureaus. Late payments or defaults on your account may be reflected in your credit report.
KEEPING UP-TO-DATE WITH OUR PRIVACY POLICY
German American Bancorp, Inc. will provide notice of our privacy policy annually, as long as you maintain an ongoing relationship with us.
